DOWNLOAD: Buff1 – Ghosting

Ghosting is a project that gives listeners insight on the types of artists and music that inspires Buff1. Giving himself one week to write original material, Buff1 created this free project to be released into the blogosphere. Choosing songs that already had space for Buff1 to spit, none of the original song arrangements have been edited.

Buff felt there were obvious similarities between the music on this project and one of his favorite Ghostface songs “Holla,” on which Ghost raps over the entire Delfonic’s song “La-La Means I Love You”. Ghosting also happens to be a game where one person follows behind another, mimicking their movements as closely as possible, without being detected.

The Ghostface homage, combined with Buff1 trying his best to follow in the footsteps of the artists who inspired him to write this project, made the title obvious. Lastly, don’t sleep on the exclusive bonus track “Better” produced by Slot-A.

Field Studies is a new ongoing documentary series from Clement & Co. that focuses on upcoming and in-progress projects by established artists. The focus of these videos is to provide insight into the concepts and processes of a wide range of work over different mediums.

In this episode Buff1 speaks to Clement & Co. about Crown Royale, his early influences, his style, and two new upcoming projects.

I Need You - 12" Preview & Pre-Order

PRE-ORDER: Mayer Hawthorne – “I Need You (Prod. Nottz)” 1-sided 12” backed with etching by Freegums. Expected ship date is August 17.

The vocal & instrumental of “I Need You” are both on one side of this single. The flip side contains an etching by Miami illustrator Freegums, who Stones Throw hooked up with a couple months back for the Mayer Hawthorne x Huf T-shirt & song collaboration. The record is packaged in plastic with a 12×12 insert.

Mayer Hawthorne explains the story behind this record:

“I met Nottz at Nightlife’s Dilla Tribute in L.A. and we just kept in contact. I had always been a fan of Nottz since the 90s. He sent me a bunch of beats and at first I had no idea what to do with any of them, but eventually it hit me. I sang a hook for him on his album as well.

When Nottz sent me that batch – that particular beat stood out. It had the same chord progression as the Otis Leville, so I just went with it.”
